Sunderland begin talks with Wolves to sign on-loan Dion Sanderson permanently for £2m with the nephew of gold-medal Olympian javelin thrower Tessa also attracting interest from Brighton and Brentford

Wolves have opened negotiations with Sunderland over the sale of defender Dion Sanderson amid increased interest for his signature.

The 21-year-old, nephew of former gold-medal Olympian javelin thrower Tessa Sanderson, has been excelling on loan at League One Sunderland where manager Lee Johnson has described him as 'an absolute Rolls Royce of a player'.

His performances have attracted interest from a number of clubs, notably Premier League Brighton and Championship high-flyers Brentford, with Wolves contemplating a sale this summer for around £2million.

Sanderson’s current Wolves contract expires in 2022 and he has spoken of a return to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad before deciding the next step in his development.
