Southampton 1 Sunderland 1: Pickford howler costs Black Cats two points

Jordan Pickford's error meant Jermain Defoe's penalty was in vain as Sunderland drew 1-1 at Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Jordan Pickford's mistake cost Sunderland two points as he let a Jay Rodriguez shot through his fingers to allow Southampton to come from behind to draw 1-1 at St Mary's on Saturday.

Jermain Defoe had given Sunderland the lead from the penalty spot with 10 minutes left after being fouled by Jose Fonte, but the visitors were in front for just five minutes before substitute Rodriguez - this week linked with a loan move away - struck his first Premier League goal since March 2014.
