South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield Wednesday launch investigation after a fan was spotted appearing to cruelly mock the death of young Sunderland supporter Bradley Lowery during their Championship match at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday have launched an investigation after a fan was pictured appearing to cruelly mock late Sunderland United fan Bradley Lowery during a meeting between the two teams at Hillsborough on Friday evening.

Lowery was a devoted Black Cats supporter before his tragic passing in 2017 at just just six years old after battling neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer.

The child's strong ties to his club - as well as close and enduring friendship with then-Sunderland player Jermaine Defoe - saw him take to the pitch as a mascot, as well as win Match of the Day's goal of the month after finding the back of the net against Chelsea in December 2019.
