Ronald Koeman has shown Ross Barkley a video of his performance at Sunderland and explained to the Everton midfielder there is 'no escape' from how far his standards dropped.
The England international was substituted at half-time during Everton's 3-0 win at The Stadium of Light. Koeman recognised it was a difficult decision to make, given Barkley had not been selected for Sam Allardyce's opening England squad, but insisted he had no option.
Barkley, Everton's manager reported, has responded positively in training but Koeman felt the need to show the 22-year-old the clips of where he had gone askew at Sunderland and hopes it will jolt him back to the levels he had previously shown.
