Jonny Brownlee has urged Paris 2024 organisers to do everything in their powers to ensure the Seine is safe to swim in at next year’s Olympics – insisting nobody should get ill from a triathlon.

Fears have grown about the river being used for next summer’s open water swimming and triathlon after a swimming test event last weekend had to be cancelled because the water quality was ‘below acceptable standards’.

The news came a week after at least 57 people fell ill with sickness and diarrhoea from swimming in the sea at the World Triathlon Championship Series in Sunderland, which has prompted a probe by British Triathlon.
