John Terry's Chelsea send-off risked 'undermining' football's integrity, claims Alan Shearer after Sunderland agree to put the ball out on 26 minutes

Sunderland's decision to kick the ball out and allow Chelsea captain John Terry to leave the pitch after 26 minutes of their final-day clash risked 'undermining the integrity of the game', Alan Shearer has claimed.

Terry played his final match at Stamford Bridge for his boyhood club on Sunday after making 717 appearances for the London club over 19 years.

The tearful defender was given a guard of honour by his team-mates after being substituted on 26 minutes – the same number he wears on the back of his shirt.
