EFL clubs set for crunch meeting over finishing campaign as six League One sides call for season to be completed

A battle over the future of Leagues One and Two is set to take place at a crunch meeting on Friday, with six clubs stating their opposition to Rochdale's proposal over finishing the season early on a points-per-game basis.

Fleetwood, Ipswich, Oldham, Peterborough, Portsmouth, and Sunderland released a joint statement calling for the campaign to conclude properly but a number of clubs will voice their view that they feel the seasons should be curtailed.

The EFL advised its 71 clubs on Wednesday evening that they should not return to training until May 25 at the earliest, which Rochdale chief executive Bottomley said meant completing the fixture list by July 31 was no longer possible.
