Crystal Palace hand Christopher Samba a chance at a Premier League return as former Blackburn defender arrives for trial

Crystal Palace have handed Christopher Samba a chance at a Premier League return after agreeing a deal for Sunderland defender Patrick van Aanholt and opening talks with Rubin Kazan’s Yann M'Vila.

Sam Allardyce is desperate for defensive reinforcements and is considering free agent centre back Samba as an option. The former QPR and Blackburn defender visited the club’s training ground on Tuesday.

But Palace must first be convinced of the fitness of Samba, 32. He has not played since November 24 and was released by Greek side Panathinaikos last week.

Allardyce is keeping his options open but could call on Samba depending on his physical state and any progress with other targets.
