Championship verdict: Sunderland win over local hearts by offering shelter to the homeless as Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay makes no excuse for his struggling side

GESTURES OF THE WEEKEND

The Championship was devastated by the Beast from the East, with only five games taking place on Saturday. Sunderland were one of few teams in action. But full credit to the club, who opened a warm room up in their stadium to house homeless locals and keep them out of the cold over the course of the weekend.

They were given places to sleep and hot food and drinks. Elsewhere, Brentford donated the pies, sausage rolls and bread that would have been sold during their postponed game against Cardiff to the Hounslow food bank.
