James McLean deletes his Instagram account and is fined two weeks' wages by Stoke City after posting an image of his home school 'history lesson' while wearing a balaclava to mimic the IRA

James McClean has been forced to delete his Instagram account and has been fined two weeks wages by Stoke after his embarassing social media post mimicing the IRA.

The controversial midfielder, who has previously refused to wear a rememberence poppy, posted the shocking picture home schooling his children wearing a balaclava with the caption: 'History lesson'.

McClean has apologised for the post, which Sportsmail exclusively revealed yesterday.

He said: 'I never wanted to cause any offence but I now realise that I did so and for that I apologise unreservedly. I have spoken to the Club and will be deleting my Instagram account.
