With Padres' help, Cards score four in first

SAN DIEGO • After the Cardinals had bumbled around in the field for the first couple of days in this series, the San Diego Padres, who had been spotless, let their slips show in the first inning as the Cardinals jumped to a 4-0 lead on Sunday.

Tommy Pham, five for eight in the first two games of the series, walked with one out. Pitcher Colin Rea fired wide of first as he tried to pick off Pham, who headed to second, stopped briefly and then continued to third as first baseman Yonder Alfonso bounced a weak throw toward third.
