What's the deal? While Cardinals finalize plan for Flaherty's right shoulder, they sign Dickerson for lefthanded swing

JUPITER, Fla. — The pell-mell start to spring training that had teams opening their camps and constructing their rosters simultaneously while rules were still — are still — being finalized has allowed teams like the Cardinals to add on the go, even as needs arise.

While making one desired addition Thursday, they await direction on what would be a pivotal absence.

To answer their annual search for a lefthanded bat, the Cardinals signed outfielder Corey Dickerson to a one-year, $5 million contract, a source confirmed. The deal is pending the results of a physical and could be announced as early as Friday when the Cardinals begin their 15-game exhibition schedule.
