SEATTLE — It was not the route he expected, the spring training he wanted, or even how the fast the organization hoped, but the destination will be the same as Paul DeJong returns the majors and joins the Cardinals on Sunday.
Fresh off a six-RBI game Friday night for Class AAA Memphis, DeJong traveled to Seattle and, if he avoids any other detours, will be activated ahead of the team’s series finale against the Mariners. DeJong spent the previous nine games with the Redbirds working his way back from lower-back stiffness that abbreviated his spring training, and he’s used that time to show what he could not in spring – the results of an offseason overhaul of his swing.
