It’s been clear since the beginning of the off-season that the St. Louis Cardinals planned to shop Brendan Donovan as nearly every team in the league has some level of interest. I’m still in favor of the Cardinals maximizing the value of players including Donovan, but I now have to ask the question of what it might look like if St. Louis planned to build around Donnie instead of trade him away.
Let me be clear that I am very pleased with Chaim Bloom’s approach so far. Unloading veterans and salary in exchange for a multitude of prospects is a good thing.
