Wainwright perfect for two innings; Goldschmidt gets first hit

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. • Adam Wainwright tossed two perfect innings in his first start of the spring season and Paul Goldschmidt doubled for his first Cardinals hit when he connected to lead off the fourth inning Tuesday.

Wainwright threw 13 strikes in 23 pitches to Washington Nationals hitters, with the Nationals using more or less their regular lineup. He had one strikeout and induced three ground balls to third baseman Matt Carpenter while reaching 90 mph with one pitch.

Goldschmidt had been nothing for his first three this spring before doubling and scoring in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1.
