The Cardinals, however, were held hitless in the first three frames by Milwaukee starter Jhoulys Chacin. Lane Thomas drew a one-out walk in the third and was bunted to second by Wainwright. But Matt Carpenter, one for 18 with men in scoring position, flied to deep right and the Cardinals still trailed 1-0.
THOMAS GETS FIRST START; BADER ACTIVATED
A familiar name was out of the Milwaukee Brewers’ lineup and a reasonably unfamiliar name was in the Cardinals’ lineup for Wednesday’s series finale at Busch Stadium, the start of which was delayed about five minutes by rain.
