JUPITER, Fla. • The kind of afternoon it was going to be for Adam Wainwright and Michael Wacha on the back field should have been clear from the moment Wainwright took the mound for his warmups. He looked to his left, to his right, and over to the dugouts.
With no fielders, no real score, and no certain outcomes except strikeouts, homers, and walks – everything else was up to the interpretation of pitching coach Mike Maddux – Wainwright and Wacha got their work in Wednesday. It was a tie. They each allowed two runs. They each allowed a home run.
