In 2017 - his third year as a full-time starter, Martinez led the Cardinals with 205 innings pitched across 30 games and starts. Martinez whiffed 217 batters and walked 71, leading to 9.53 K/9 and 3.12 BB/9 rates.
Martinez maintained a 3.64 ERA and 3.91 FIP, holding batters to a collective .232 batting average. Martinez fell victim to the long ball frequently, with 27 hit against him last year; for comparison, batters combined for 15 home runs in 31 games in 2016.
