When the Cardinals acquired LHP Adalberto Mejia on outright assignment waivers yesterday from the Los Angeles Angels, the club cleared a 40-man roster spot by transferring Jedd Gyorko from the 10-day to the 60-day IL. Mejia did not, however, have the time to report right away, and thus the Cardinals did not make a corresponding 25-man roster move before last night’s game against the Cubs.
Mejia has now reported to the team, and in an interesting development, to make room for Mejia on the active roster, the Cards have decided to option RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon to AAA Memphis.
