CINCINNATI — Unable to do much of anything in his apartment as he recovered from COVID-19, Cardinals outfielder Lane Thomas did as many of the things as he normally would, just none of them like he had.
Thomas would review the video of that day’s pitchers and the relievers he was likely to face coming off the bench, even if he was stuck on the couch. With the Cardinals’ game on television he’d stand near it and take dry swings, timing pitches as if he was at the plate and not in quarantine.
“Trying to stay mentally there,” he explained.
