Ted Simmons passed over for Baseball Hall of Fame

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. • Ted Simmons' wait continues.

The former switch-hitting catcher and Cardinals Hall of Famer was not selected by the Modern Era Committee for the Hall of Fame Class of 2018. Needing 12 votes for election, Simmons fell one vote short.

Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Jack Morris (14 votes) and former Detroit Tigers shortstop Alan Trammell (13 votes) were the only two candidates to make the cut this year. A duo that helped lead Detroit to the 1984 World Series will be inducted together.

The results of the National Baseball Hall of Fame's Modern Baseball Era ballot were revealed Sunday night from the location of this year's MLB Winter Meetings.
