JUPITER, Fla. • There will be bunting.
The Cardinals open spring training Thursday morning – officially, finally, slightly belatedly – with the first workout for pitchers and catchers. There will be a total of 33 pitchers and 10 catchers in camp, and while the first schedule of the preparatory season looks a lot like the last schedule of last spring, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has said he intends to introduce some wrinkles.
There will be bunting.
There will be competition.
There will be an attempt to inject … fun.
