ST. LOUIS • In need of a pitcher to bring some certainty to the middle of the rotation, the Cardinals have an agreement in place with free-agent Mike Leake.
A source familiar with the negotiations told the Post-Dispatch the two sides are "getting closer." A second source confirmed that an agreement, which would be for five years, is being finalized, pending a physical.
A deal could be completed as early as Tuesday.
The team has announced a 2 p.m. St. Louis time press conference.
The Cardinals do not comment on signings until they are finalized, and to them that means the completion of a physical.
