CINCINNATI • The Cardinals’ bullpen probably was overloaded with lefthanders at four. But that number was reduced by one Sunday when Kevin Siegrist, who has become less of an option in the Cardinals’ late-inning rotation lately, was placed on the 10-day disabled with left forearm tendinitis to make room for starter Adam Wainwright, who came off the DL.
Sieigrist, 1-1 with a 4.98 earned run average, last pitched Thursday in Milwaukee when he fanned two of the three men he faced in a perfect inning. In his last 10 outings, he had allowed earned runs in just one of them, but that was his next-to-last appearance on July 29, when he walked three and gave up four runs in a third of an inning against Arizona.
