Shooed away by coronavirus last year, Redbird fans flock back to Opening Day 2021

If there's no crying in baseball, it follows that tears are acceptable when there is no baseball.

"I just wanted to cry," Tammy Voyles said Thursday when asked what she did after Opening Day 2020 was canceled because of coronavirus concerns.

"I mean, what, no Opening Day?," she said.

Suzi Mattus of Crestwood, a friend of Voyles, was equally grief stricken last year, but still couldn't stay away.

"A few of us came down, brought some food and tailgated anyway," Mattus said.
