Shannon, heading for 50 years in booth, barely survived battle with COVID

JUPITER, Fla. — It had been common knowledge for a few months that Cardinals radio voice Mike Shannon would be back for his 50th, and final, year in the broadcast booth. What hadn’t been common knowledge was that it was almost Shannon’s final year. Period.

Shannon told the Post-Dispatch that he had spent 15 days in a hospital from late October through early November battling COVID-19.

“I was going down,” he said. “I was probably going to die.”

But after several medicines were tried unsuccessfully at St. Lukes Hospital in St. Louis County, Shannon said, “They gave me the stuff they gave the President and that turned the trick.
