Rosenthal wants to beat his own record as Cardinals closer

Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal not only set the Cardinals' single-season saves record at 48 last season, he also became the first Cardinals closer to have 40 or more saves in consecutive seasons since Lee Smith had a three-bagger more than 20 years ago. And, at only age 25, Rosenthal, who will be beginning his third full campaign as the ninth-inning man, admits, "You always want to beat your own record. That would be a cool thing to do."

For now, Rosenthal just wants to make sure he is ready for the grind.

"I’ve definitely taken strength training very seriously since the beginning of my career," he said at the recent Cardinals' Winter Warm-Up.
