Rain, rain goes away, but Cardinals cannot hold lead for another day against Pirates

PITTSBURGH — A storm delayed the game, not the Pirates’ rally or what's become an inevitable outcome.

Lefty Jordan Montgomery outlasted the sudden burst of rain at PNC Park to continue his pursuit of a win for the first time in 56 days, but he and the Cardinals could not weather another outburst of late-game offense from Pittsburgh. The Pirates scored three unearned runs against Montgomery in the sixth inning to snap a tie game and win the series with a 4-3 victory Saturday evening.

The Cardinals came to PNC Park fresh and rested after a two-day break and looking at a Golden Triangle opportunity in Pittsburgh for a significant stride up the standings.
