It was supposed to be Stephen Piscotty's off day.
Instead the Cardinals right fielder, playing at first base for the first time this season following his entrance to the game as a pinch-hitter, hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning that pulled the Cardinals into a 5-5 tie with the Padres at Busch Stadium.
The barely-over-the-wall shot to center field off Padres reliever Ryan Butcher was Piscotty's 14th of the season. It came on a 2-1 fastball. It came on Piscotty's one-year anniversary as a major leaguer.
Piscotty plated three of the Cardinals' four runs in the inning.
