Stephen Piscotty's three-run homer in the sixth inning gave the Cardinals a 5-1 lead over the Pirates.
Piscotty smacked an 0-1 fastball from Pirates reliever Arquimedes Caminero, perhaps making the Pirates wish they left rookie starter Tyler Glasnow in a bit longer.
But the Cardinals chased Glasnow, who surrendered three hits in his major league debut, thanks to Greg Garcia's double and Matt Holliday's walk. In between, Aledmys Diaz moved Garcia to third on a sacrifice bunt. The Cardinals were playing small ball, but Piscotty was thinking big.
It appeared his 11th homer of the season would be ruled a double, but an umpire review that lasted 1:31 confirmed the ball did in fact enter the shrubs above the center field wall.
