Pittsburgh starter Francisco Liriano picked up Friday night where he left off in his first encounter with the Cardinals this season.
The lefthander had five strikeouts in the first three innings at Busch Stadium, where an RBI-single by Josh Harrison in the second inning gave the Pirates an early 1-0 lead.
Liriano struck out 10 Cardinals in six innings in the season opener at Pittsburgh. He started Friday's game by getting called third strikes on Stephen Piscotty, Matt Holliday and Brandon Moss in the first.
Pittsburgh scored in the second inning when Starling Marte opened with a single before Carlos Martinez walked Francisco Cervelli.
