Ortiz elected to Baseball Hall; Clemens, Bonds fall short as Rolen moves closer

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was regarded as one of baseball’s most dangerous hitters in the clutch when he played and no team knows that better than the Cardinals.

In Boston’s 2013 World Series victory over the Cardinals, Ortiz, serving as the designated hitter for home games and playing first base in St. Louis, had 11 hits in 15 at-bats with two homers and six runs batted in over the first five games, three of which Boston won. So Cardinals manager Mike Matheny vowed that it wasn’t going to happen again. And it didn’t happen. In five plate appearances in Game 6, Ortiz was walked four times, three of them intentional.
