Old Man & the Sweep: Ageless Wainwright sets tone, power follows in Cardinals' big catch vs. Cubs

CHICAGO — Their pitching plan upended a few hours before the start of Saturday's doubleheader, the Cardinals got a steady start from Adam Wainwright and an early flex of power to sweep a doubleheader at Wrigley Field.

Wainwright guided the Cardinals to a 4-2 victory in Game 1 (see below) and left the bullpen only two outs to cover. That allowed the Cardinals to piece together a puzzle of relievers for Game 2. Andrew Miller, back off the injured list, closed the game for a 5-1 victory Saturday.

The Cardinals were the home team in the second game, meaning that victory was the first ever home win for the Cardinals at Wrigley.
