It had been 25 days shy of a year since Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson had been a winning pitcher and it will be a while longer before he has that designation. There is no disputing he pitched a winning game Friday night against the Cincinnati Reds but it did him little good.
Hudson was pulled one out short of the five-inning qualifying mark for the victory because he had thrown 74 pitches, a total manager Mike Shildt felt was quite enough for almost any pitcher who had missed some three weeks because of team quarantines. Hudson accomplished much.
