Mozeliak: Cardinals aren't shopping for roster additions this spring

JUPITER, Fla. • Whoever remains available in the free-agent market and whatever the shape of the question, the Cardinals have established a stance entering spring training that they do not expect to add to the current roster.

The Cardinals signed All-Star closer Greg Holland on opening day to a one-year, $14-million deal, and the lack of a spring training seemed to catch up with Holland as his performance sank and wavered throughout his time with the Cardinals. Other teams had similar experiences with mid-spring additions, like former Cardinal Lance Lynn in Minnesota.

Asked Thursday morning if what happened last year could give the Cardinals a timetable to add a free agent this spring — or not at all — president of baseball operations John Mozeliak nodded.
