Class AAA Memphis reliever Sam Tuivailala struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth inning and earned his 14th save with the Redbirds in Tuesday's 9-7 victory over Round Rock.
Tuivailala, who was recently sent back down to Memphis after appearing in a handful of games with St. Louis, has been trying to refine his cutter. He showed flashes of what he could do with the pitch in the few July major league games he'd appeared in.
In 33 games with Memphis, Tuivailala, a 2010 third-round draft pick, has a 1.85 earned-run average and 33 strikeouts.
