JUPITER, Fla. • Carlos Martinez ran into the greatest Dominican pitcher of all time often this offseason in Florida, and he was smart enough to pepper Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez with questions about the art of pitching.
Whether fishing together or elsewhere this offseason, the Cardinals’ ace asked the legend for advice. Pedro Martinez has famously said that he never stopped learning during his career. Carlos Martinez is following that example this spring by adding a cutter to his deep pitching repertoire with the help of Adam Wainwright and Michael Wacha.
Martinez is hardly the only Cardinals pitcher who has sought pointers from his teammates this spring.
