PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. • Lefthander Austin Gomber, little used this spring so far in Grapefruit League games, will get his first start of the spring Sunday against the New York Mets. Lefthander Brett Cecil, used even less, will back him up.
Gomber, who 6-2 in 29 games (11 starts) with five wins in August last year, has been in just two games this spring, giving up three solo homers in 4 2/3 innings. Cecil, who has been reshaping his mechanics after a drastic weight loss appeared to have thrown him off, is likely to get one inning in relief.
