SAN DIEGO — Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty’s approach to a game he would honestly prefer not to pitch, because it wouldn’t be necessary, has not changed.
“Let’s hope we win the first two,” the Cardinals’ announced Game 3 starter said Thursday before Game 2. “That would be the case whether I was pitching 1, 2, or 3. Whoever is pitching that third game — let’s win the first two.”
It’s his view of the games that has changed.
At the end of the Cardinals’ dugout farthest from the manager and nearest the seats, Flaherty has a spot on the wall, his right foot often propped on a trash can.
