It's a loaded question: How Cardinals' missed chances added up in Brewers' series win

MILWAUKEE — With two outs and one last chance to redirect the momentum Sunday against the Brewers, the lineup made the decision for Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol.

The Cardinals were on the brink of botching yet another bases-loaded opportunity when the top of the lineup came back around with three runners on and one out to give at American Family Field.

Milwaukee greeted the Cardinals’ No. 1 hitter with groundball-heavy lefty Hoby Milner. So Marmol chose to pinch-hit right-handed batter Taylor Motter for everyday leadoff hitter and left-handed batter Brendan Donovan. Had the at-bat happened with no outs or the tying run in scoring position, it likely goes to someone else.
