Hummel: Longtime GM Gebhard adds touch of 'old school' to Cardinals' scouting

JUPITER, Fla. • Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak doesn’t deny that his club’s front office is a bit more new-school than old-school.

“When I think about having balance and insight, we have a pretty good process on how we think about things and how we make decisions. It’s definitely analytically driven,” said Mozeliak. “But I did feel it would be nice to get another voice on the scouts’ side. It does bring clarity on how you make decisions.”

So 74-year-old Bob Gebhard, the first general manager of the Colorado Rockies and also an executive with Montreal, Minnesota and Arizona, has been brought back to the Cardinals on a multi-year deal.
