As Dexter Fowler and Kolten Wong left the clubhouse to make their way down the stairs and toward the dugout, Brown told them his forecast called for homers.
Fowler tagged the first pitch of the game for a home run and Wong followed for back-to-back blasts that gave the Cardinals as many runs on two swings Thursday as they scored in the previous 18 innings against the Rockies. Three more homers followed, including Rangel Ravelo’s 487-foot clout, and for the first time in club history the Cardinals got a leadoff homer in the first four innings of a game.
