Dr. Gerald Early is so accomplished as an author, essayist and culture critic, he even has a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame. And he has opined often about both race and baseball. At Washington University, he is the Merle Kling Professor of Modern Letters in the African and African American Studies Department, of which he is the chair.
