This season has gotten to that point — unless the uneven and under-performing Cards can salvage a series at first-place Milwaukee, Monday’s game at Busch Stadium could have the locals in quite a tizzy about the local nine. Perhaps luckily for John Mabry, the hitting coach doesn’t go out to the field like the pitching coach does.
Michael Wacha originally was scheduled to start Monday’s game, against first-place Cleveland. But his oblique injury means a new starter will be thrown into this sinking season. The loss of Wacha is just the latest in a year in which the Cards’ disabled list is as long as the list of disappointments.
