The Kansas City Royals were once just the Kansas City Royals.
That was the insult, in and of itself — you didn’t need admonishing adjectives and adverbs, because the nouns and pronouns were profane.
“Man, that team is so not good at sports, it’s like it’s the Kansas City Royals out there.” … or … “Benjamin, you’re the Kansas City Royals of dating.”
But if they win one baseball game either Friday or Saturday, the Kansas City Royals are in the World Series. Again.
Let this fully sink in, because very possibly it hasn’t yet.
