It’s been this way for three years, regarding the St. Louis Cardinals. I’ll find it – or find ways, at least, to talk myself into an optimistic state – but in the end? Three seasons, three missed postseasons. The Cardinals are the National League’s Mariners, this good-not-great team that hangs around but can’t make the playoffs. This isn’t about 2011 or 1982 or 1967. This is about the day the Cards lost to the Cubs in the 2015 NLDS … to today.
But then I think about 2019. I think about how the Cards were 41-28 under manager Mike Shildt.
