ST. LOUIS • On his way to cover the 1967 All-Star Game out west, Post-Dispatch sports columnist and Hall of Fame baseball writer Bob Broeg took a detour for dinner and a show in Las Vegas. He spotted a chalkboard with the day’s baseball results scribbled, erased, and scribbled again, and as his eyes scanned for the Cardinals’ score against Pittsburgh, he saw the big, all-caps word chalked next to the starting pitcher’s name.
