On the 12th pitch thrown to him in the 13th inning of a scoreless game Saturday night at Busch Stadium, San Francisco rookie Christian Arroyo got the better of Cardinals reliever Kevin Siegrist.
Hitting with the bases loaded and one out, Arroyo finally drove a full-count pitch to the left-center-field wall for a double that cracked the tie and scored two runs as the Giants tallied three times in the inning and went on to a 3-1 victory in a game delayed by rain for 42 minutes after 10 innings.
The late-night outburst spoiled the best game of Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez’s career.
