Gant, newcomer Greene, hot prospect Hicks will follow Flaherty on Friday

JUPITER, Fla. • Righthander Jack Flaherty is slated to throw 35 pitches or two innings Friday in the Cardinals’ first exhibition game against the Miami Marlins here.

Righthander John Gant, who could be a starter or reliever this year, also is on tap for 2/35, followed by righthanders Josh Lucas and Conner Greene (acquired from Toronto) and lefthander Jordan Schafer.

Hard-throwing Jordan Hicks, the Cardinals’ 21-year-old fireballer who was in Class A last year, is in store for one or two innings near the end of the game. The Cardinals are projecting Hicks as a possible late-inning man, perhaps as early as later this season.
