Freese watched innings pass by in Friday's 'insane' game before familiar history struck

“Personally? It pops in my head during the game,” Freese said early Saturday morning. “You’re sitting around, you’re seeing them do stuff, us do stuff, and you’re wondering how this is going to unfurl. Yeah, if we don’t pull this out, you think, we might just be playing for fun the next so many games. Down 3-0? That’s pretty tough.”

The game was the longest (by time) ever played by the Red Sox, the longest (by time) ever played in the World Series, and the lengthiest (by innings) in 663 World Series games. Each team tied a record for pitchers used in a World Series game (nine), and combined they used more players than any previous World Series game (46).
